Six fun ways to stay fit during autumn

Do you struggle to keep active over the autumn months? The days may be getting shorter and colder, but it’s easier than you think to keep fit and we’ll show you how with these six fun activities:

(1)    Walking

With the weather being neither too hot or too cold, walking is an activity ideal for the autumn months. You’ll already know how beneficial even a short walk can be for your health and walks at this time of year are very pleasant with all the colourful leaves falling from the trees.

(2)    Jogging

Why not go a step further and try taking up running? For those up for the challenge, download the NHS Couch to 5K app. Designed for beginners, it trains you step by step, so you can run 5km within 9 weeks. To keep it fun, the app lets you be coached by celebrities such as Sarah Millican or Michael Johnson.

(3)    Biking

Autumn is the perfect time for a bit of outdoor cycling. For added enjoyment take a few friends along with you and go for a mini adventure exploring the countryside to enjoy the autumn colours. But make sure you wear a helmet!

(4)    Yoga

Yoga is a great exercise not just for your body but also for your mind. And as we all know managing stress is another important part of helping to prevent type 2 diabetes! As its autumn you should try doing it outside in the nice cool relaxing weather.

(5)    Dancing

Dancing is a great way to have fun and is also an excellent workout. Try looking into Zumba fitness classes in your local area. Zumba is a workout designed for those who hate exercise and gets you dancing to upbeat music. This can be a fun activity to take up as the seasons change and is something you can continue on into the winter months.

(6)    Gardening

You may not realise it, but all that work you do in the garden is a great way to keep in shape. All that weeding, watering and most importantly, raking away all the leaves is a great way to get your heart pumping. It gives your entire body a workout too and best of all you’re completing housework at the same time!

Hopefully one or two of the activities sparked your interest and you’ll give them a good go this autumn. There’s nothing better than having fun and staying healthy at the same time!
